Cheryl Cole turns rock chick to perform at V Festival

Singer Cheryl Cole, who last week announced her split from husband Ashley Cole, has been lined up to perform solo at this year's V Festival.

Tickets go on sale this week for the 15-year-old festival which takes place at two venues, Weston Park and Hylands Park, annually in mid-August.

The Girl's Aloud singer is an unusual choice for the typically rock music focused festival which will be headlined by indie veteran acts Kasabian and Kings of Leon, announced today.

Kasabian and Kings of Leon to headline V Festival

Kasabian and Kings of Leon have been confirmed as headliners for this summer's V Festival.

Other names announced include Florence And The Machine, The Prodigy, Ellie Goulding, Paolo Nutini, La Roux, Pixie Lott, Plan B and Stereophonics.

Kasabian last played V in 2007 when they were on before Foo Fighters and The Killers.

Cheryl Cole will also add a pop flavour to proceedings when she tops the bill in The Arena.

Tennessee rockers Kings of Leon last appeared at the event in 2008, when they were second headliners behind The Verve.

V Festival is staged over two days with the same bands playing at two sites, in Chelmsford and Staffordshire on 21 and 22 August.

Their latest album, West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, went to number one and they also picked up top honours at the Brits and NME awards.

The band said they were excited about being the main draw at V.

Lead singer Tom Meighan said: "We've played it a few times. I think it's a great festival. It's well done.

"It's well put together and the headline acts are fantastic. Of course we're pleased. How could I not be pleased?

"We're headlining V Festival. It's taken some time but now we're there. It's wonderful."

Limited number of V Festival 2010 tickets go on sale

A limited amount of tickets for the 2010 V Festival will be released for sale at the same price as this year's tickets.

Available from 9am tomorrow (August 25), the tickets will cost £132.50 for a weekend pass, and £152.50 for weekend pass with camping. The tickets will be on sale for up to a week or until the undisclosed limited number sell out. 

V Festival 2010 will be the 15th bash since its inception back in 1996.

“We really want to give fans the chance to buy tickets for next year’s festival at this year’s prices, as it means they can be first in the queue for next year’s festival and save a few quid in the process," says V Festival director Simon Moran. 

He added: "V Festival has a great history of brilliant line-ups, and next year will be no exception. We’re looking forward to it already!"

V Festival tickets sells out in record time

Bands such as Kasabian, Kings Of Leon and The Prodigy are to headline the event which takes place on two separate sites in August.

Festival director Bob Angus said: "Selling out in 1.5 hours is true testament to the passion of our fans and success of V Festival's 15th anniversary."

Doves and Calvin Harris have been added to the line-up at this year's V Festival, it has been announced.

As previously reported, Kings Of Leon and Kasabian will headline the bash, with Florence And The Machine, The Prodigy, Stereophonics, Paul Weller, La Roux and Faithless also on the bill for the two-site event.

V Festival takes place on two sites – one in Chelmsford and one in Staffordshire – on August 21-22.
