Further big names for V Festival

Big name rock and pop stars including Eels, Tinie Tempah, Feeder and The Magic Numbers have been added to the bill for this year’s V Festival.

The event, planned for Weston Park, on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border, on August 21 and 22, has also added a string of other acts including Robyn, Gabriella Climi, The Saw Doctors, Diana Vickers, Example and Hurts.

“V Festival 2010 will also mark the return of indie group Feeder, fresh from some recent time out and loaded with new material.

Spokesman James Duffy said: “Both V Festival sites at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, will welcome rock sensation the Eels and the UK’s hottest grime artist Tinie Tempah.

“Electro pop princess Robyn is back to entertain the crowds, as is Australian beauty Gabriella Cilmi who is set to wow the crowds for her second year at V.

“Brit group The Magic Numbers will make an anticipated return to deliver a dose of indie for good measure, along with Irish sensations The Saw Doctors. Newcomers Diana Vickers, Example and Hurts will also make their mark at this year’s hottest festival.”

V Festival was held first time in 1996 when Pulp's front man Jarvis Cocker announced he would love to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulp's promoters got together and came up with the idea of putting the gig into Victoria Park Warrington and Hylands Park Chelmsford giving fans in both the North and South a chance to see the band. So in August 1996 there was one day of artists in Victoria Park and two days at Hylands Park with camping. The northern leg of V97 was switched to Temple Newsam, Leeds to provide room for camping and three stages. In 1999 the Northern leg of the festival was moved to Weston Park in Staffordshire and has remained there since.

V Festival was previously held at Temple Newsam in Leeds, before being replaced by Carling's Leeds Festival. Originally, the festival took the name of the current year, with the first festival being named "V96". V Festival started in 1996 and saw The Charlatans, The Mike Flowers Pops and Super Furry Animals, among others. Since then, V festival has only continued to grow larger, seeing even more famous artists. Since 2003 it has been known as simply the V Festival. Its weekend format, low queuing times and professional organization have given it a loyal audience. The festival sold out in record time in 2006.

The 2010 lineup for V festival was officially announced on the 1st March 2010 through the festival's site. The headliners for both days are Kings of Leon and Kasabian. v festival tickets went on sale on the 5th March 2010 at 9:00, with virgin media customers pre-sale tickets being available on the 2nd March, and Essex residents tickets being available on the 4th March from 9:00. General sale v festival tickets 2010 became available at 9.00am on 5 March 2010.

V Festival 2010 Line-Up Revealed

Kings of Leon and Kasabian have been named as headliners for this year’s V Festival.

The bill also features main stage slots for Stereophonics, Faithless, Paul Weller, Madness, Editors and The Kooks, it was revealed today (March 1).

David Guetta and Faithless will perform headline sets in the 4Music tent, with Florence and the Machine and White Lies due to appear on the same stage.

Other acts confirmed to play are Cheryl Cole, Pet Shop Boys, Groove Armada and White Lies.

The festival takes place over the weekend of August 21-22, at the sites in Stafford and Chelmsford.

V Festival announces Seasick Steve

Seasick Steve has just been announced for the twin V Festivals.

V Festival has made another addition to the line-up in the form of blues singer, Seasick Steve who will play the V Stage at Weston Park Saturday, and Hylands Park on Sunday.

The twin-sited V Festival takes place at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex and Weston Park, Staffordshire on Saturday 21st and 22nd August 2010 this year.

Kings of Leon will headline Chelmsford on the Saturday and Stafford on the Sunday, and Kasabian will headline Staffordshire on the Saturday, and Chelmsford on the Sunday.
